Barbara Chick, District 6 Council Member, is serving her third and final term, focusing her energies on helping her district benefit from the City's redevelopment goals. She has also served on the Plan Commission and the West Area Implementation Committee. Mrs. Chick has lived in Garland since 1950. She and her husband, Don, built a house here in 1965. They raised two children here. She is a retired bank Assistant Vice President.
Mrs. Chick's two children still live in Garland. Her daughter, Terri, has a master's degree in education and is working on her doctorate. Her son, Thomas, has a bachelor's degree in business. Terri's master's degree and Thomas's bachelor's degree are from East Texas State University in Commerce (now Texas A&M University at Commerce), which is where Mrs. Chick's maternal grandmother received her teaching degree in the 1920s.
